STUDENT LEARNING WORKSHOP

The Service Learning Workshop (SLW) is an experiential curriculum designed to get 5th-8th graders on the path to meaningful civic engagement, and to provide a foundation for passion projects, community service efforts, and mitzvah projects.

Over 8 sessions, students explore their own unique story and build empathic connections to social issues through reflection, experience sharing and first-person narratives. They spend time building a collective understanding of what social challenges exist at school and what can be done about it. The curriculum includes a mix of reflection and engaging activities, including our very own game invented by The Giving Square. The program culminates in students exploring pressing social issues that matter to them. Participants then go on to volunteer at a related organization, produce a podcast episode, found their own philanthropic school clubs, and even start their own philanthropic endeavors like park clean ups!
