The Giving Square Fellowship

The Giving Square Spring 2021 Fellowship

In the spring of 2021, we launched The Giving Square Fellowship, an intergenerational community of practice designed to:

  1. Deepen the philanthropic skills, tools, and commitments of Fellows.

  2. Generate new knowledge and tools to unleash the philanthropic and civic power of children.

  3. Facilitate intergenerational engagement and collaboration across every generation - from the Silent Generation to Generation Alpha.

Above: Fellows reflect on what philanthropy means to them in our last session.

TGS Fellows are helping to change the narrative about the civic and philanthropic role of children. In just a few months, Fellows have led workshops at the Generations United conference, created the first "Kids Teach Philanthropy" video on art, and been invited to speak about philanthropy to different audiences. As Nico (representing the Silent Generation) put it best, "it is as if I became part of a family".

Our spring 2021 fellows cohort had fellows from Silent Generation (born before 1945), Baby Boomer (born 1946-1964), Generation X (born 1965-1980), Millennial (born 1981-1994), Generation Z (born 1995-2009), and Generation Alpha (born 2010-2024). Our fellows were located all over, too - from Maryland, DC, and Virginia to Massachusetts, Illinois, and the Netherlands!
